What can I do for you?
I am a specialist in our employment team with a broad range of experience, with a particular expertise in advising higher education institutions (HEIs) (both chartered and post 1992 institutions), further education colleges, and commercial organisations. I work with clients on the full range of employment matters, both contentious and non-contentious. I have a particular interest in handling employment tribunal claims and have conducted advocacy in the employment tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal. I also advise employers on the operation of TUPE, including in relation to outsourcing and establishing shared services, and have experience in drafting the full spectrum of employment documentation.
In addition, I work closely with clients on immigration matters, helping them to recruit the talent they need. I have experience in advising on document checks and entitlement to work issues, and tiers 1, 2 and 5 of the points based system.
Supporting my clients’ objectives
A recent highlight for me was advising an HEI on establishing operations in other countries, and representing another HEI in disciplinary proceedings involving an academic under its statutes. I have also defended one of the UK’s largest employers against several complex age discrimination, whistleblowing and trade union related claims. I always strive to take a practical and commercial approach to the work I do, providing straightforward and accessible advice while taking into account wider strategic concerns and the need to carefully manage costs.
I have enjoyed delivering in-house training for clients on a variety of topics, including age discrimination and immigration, as well as speaking at external conferences.
What do others say?
One of the great things about my role is working closely with clients to achieve practical and commercial solutions to complex legal problems, and hearing how my contribution has helped to drive their organisations forward. A client recently described the service I had provided as "first class".
Legal 500 describes our team as having a “sense of authority” in employment matters.
