What can I do for you?

I work in the ever changing and complex area of employment law. The work I get involved in includes looking after clients including large NHS trusts, primary care trusts, FE colleges and universities, private schools, charities and commercial clients.

The majority of my work is employment tribunal litigation, although I also spend a lot of time helping clients work through complex HR issues and working on corporate transactions. I have a particular interest in TUPE and discrimination issues. I undertake some advocacy in employment tribunals and also enjoy delivering training to clients and non-clients.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

The most enjoyable aspect of my work is dealing with people. Recently, for example, I worked on a large and complex case involving constructive dismissal and allegations of public interest disclosures. There was a vast amount of paperwork, a difficult claimant and representative (his wife!) and a large number of witnesses. Everyone had to be handled with care and sensitivity while ensuring that they all knew the case and their role in it.

This case had everything: legal advice, tactical advice, drafting and use of the soft skills that a good employment lawyer often needs.

What do others say?

Employment law can be complicated and often difficult to understand. I think my clients would say that I make things easy to digest and do so with a sense of humour and with lots of energy. It is vital to help clients to keep costs down and I take a highly commercial approach to problem solving. I like my clients to feel that I am part of their team.

What else should you know?

I am a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and I speak regularly at seminars and workshops on employment law.

I enjoy writing, and have part authored books on TUPE and discrimination for Workplace Law as well as being responsible for authoring employment updates in our Health Legal Update.
