Your challenges
You want to make use of the expertise, experience and invention that reflects the strengths of your institution. You are interested in developing collaborative arrangements that use various approaches – from validation and franchise agreements, progressions and articulations, to dual and joint awards, using face to face, online and blended delivery.
You are also keen to ensure that consultancy and research are promoted through collaborative partnerships as well as to increase the commercial collaborations and joint ventures you enter into with the private sector. You need to be confident that the agreements involved protect your institution’s interests and provide you with the means to achieve your institutional objectives.
If you are considering not only the local context but looking internationally, you want a firm with good international collaborative experience. We are part of the State Capital Group*, which means that our international offering is enhanced by the fact that we have a preferred network of independent law firms covering many countries. Our experience of educational collaborative activity covers more than 50 jurisdictions.
Achieving your ambitions
Our education team members are experts on collaborations in higher education, advising on both UK and overseas activities. A number of our lawyers have experience in practising around the world. In addition to this, many of our lawyers are bilingual and/or have worked in-house. We ensure that we are at the forefront of developments in the sector for example through our membership of the Observatory for Borderless Higher Education.
We have specialist international groups within our firm who are familiar with foreign law as well as the way it works on the ground. For example, our China team comprises over 20 lawyers and has experience in technology, corporate, real estate and higher education China-related transactions.
You will benefit from our multi-disciplinary approach as our lawyers are kept apprised of the latest country specific legal, cultural and commercial developments.
You need someone who will act as the central point of contact for all advice and who will manage your matter effectively. We will provide clear and appropriate instructions, co-ordinate our associates’ advice, provide regular updates and deadline reminders and manage fees to ensure you receive a seamless service.
For many years, we have advised clients on the numerous approaches to creating collaborations, including contractual, company or limited liability partnership. One of our specialities is advice on the granting of dual and joint awards by multiple higher education parties. However, we will ensure that whatever arrangement is right for you works to your best possible advantage.
