What can I do for you?
I head Mills & Reeve’s insurance disputes national service line. This role is to ensure that our lawyers deliver outstanding client service nationally in an effective, efficient and consistent manner.
In handling client work, I specialise in resolving professional indemnity claims and represent both the traditional professions - particularly solicitors, architects, surveyors and valuers - and the emerging professions, such as IT and media. I regularly deal with coverage issues and complex, difficult matters where the extent of my experience can be influential.
Supporting my clients’ objectives
Clients want their disputes to be resolved efficiently, in terms of both outcome and outlay. Identifying and implementing the strategy to provide the most efficient solution is motivating and rewarding. The increased use of mediation and adjudication has changed the face of dispute resolution over recent years, influencing the speed and efficiency of outcomes. My most significant achievement during this time has been the substantial increase in cases being resolved either without court proceedings, or relatively early in their life.
One recent case stands out in my mind. It was a grossly inflated seven-figure claim against solicitors who allegedly negligently drafted a commercial agreement. It did not settle at mediation, but it was resolved soon afterwards, by identifying and adopting a strategy that forced the claimant to accept a sum significantly lower than the value of the claim.
