What can I do for you?

I am a specialist family lawyer who has practiced at the Bar as well as within Mills & Reeve, and am also a trained collaborative family lawyer. This enables me to draw on a variety of experience so as to tailor an approach to the difficulties that are faced on relationship breakdown to your individual needs.

My work ranges from high profile divorces dealt with by the courts, in relation to which I have a wealth of experience, to negotiated settlements achieved outside that arena, in relation to both financial and children proceedings. I also advise on living together (co-habitation), pre and post-nuptial and separation agreements. My work often involves complex financial issues, including business interests, trusts and pensions or has an international dimension. My clients come from a wide geographical area, including abroad, but are mainly based in Yorkshire and London, where I spend a significant amount of my time.

Supporting my clients’ aims

I am passionate about family law and ensuring that my clients are given the best possible advice and support when steering them through a very difficult period in their lives. The circumstances surrounding the breakdown of a relationship are unique. As a priority, I ensure that I listen to your specific needs and requirements to be able to offer informed advice and an approach tailored to the unique demands of your circumstances to ensure the best possible outcome for you.

What do others say?

We are very proud of our family team at Mills & Reeve and were delighted when this was recognised at the Legal Business Awards, where we won Private Client Team of the Year 2009. We aim to provide excellent clear advice tailored to the individual needs of our clients. Chambers UK describes us as having “a formidable reputation for providing cost-effective advice in the local market” and that we are quoted by our peers as being “just excellent at every level”. On a personal note, I was proud when a client recently wrote to say that I am "a tremendous asset to Mills & Reeve. Calm, assured, diligent and clearly very knowledgeable, Joanna performed superbly throughout the proceedings".   I was equally delighted when another commented that I "have been fantastic throughout - efficient, pragmatic and clever".

What else should you know?

I belong to Resolution, an association of family lawyers committed to adopting a constructive approach to family cases as well as the Family Law Bar Association. I regularly write articles on areas of family law, both for leading family law publications and the general public. Our family law team also runs Divorce.co.uk, a website offering comprehensive divorce advice and guidance. You can read more on the website about my experience in divorce law and about the rest of our team of family lawyers in Leeds.
