What can I do for you?

I am a solicitor who is lucky enough to specialise in the fascinating and ever changing area of healthcare law. This involves representing health clients at inquests and advising on emerging healthcare issues including the complex area of continuing healthcare and NHS commissioning. I also advise regulatory clients in the health and social care setting. This gives me the opportunity to see things from a provider of care and regulator of care perspective.

Supporting my clients’ aims

The highlight of my role is in helping clients reach solutions on sensitive and sometimes high profile issues.

A typical day could include advising a client on an emergency closure of, for example, a nursing home. This could result in an immediate application of closure to a magistrate or by careful negotiation a solution may be possible which would satisfy the client and safeguard the service users. A call could come in from a trust requiring immediate advice on whether to treat a patient with a life-threatening condition without capacity.

Equally I could also be attending meetings, helping nervous witnesses to prepare for forthcoming inquests or supporting a client by providing advocacy at the inquest itself.

A recent highlight is representing a core participant in the Mid Staffs Inquiry. Helping my client through this process gave me an invaluable opportunity to consider in depth the issues facing the regulation of the NHS in the past and considering solutions for the future.

Whatever the day holds my aim is to provide straightforward legal advice that can be practically applied.

What do others say?

The reward for me is making a difference for clients. I have listed a few quotes from clients below:

“Thank you for all your hard work and advice recently. You have been a massive help and we really appreciate it.”
“Thank you for the great support you gave me over the last few months.”
“WELL DONE and thanks.”
“I thank you once again for the splendid service you have given us.”

What else should you know?

I am on the out of hours call scheme that we provide to clients. We are available 24 hours a day if necessary!
