What can I do for you?

I am a solicitor in the family team and I joined Mills & Reeve in 2005 after studying at Oxford University. I trained with Mills & Reeve for two years, during which I gained experience of agriculture and estates, residential property and private tax and trusts. I have also been involved in employment, education and banking work prior to joining the family team. My work includes dealing with all aspects of divorce, ancillary relief and private law children cases.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

I aim to help focus my clients on their future following relationship breakdown. I provide guidance and advice on the different paths available for them and their children. I offer practical solutions outside the court process but am also experienced in using the court to work to people’s advantage. I have experience of dealing with high value financial affairs including those of professionals, people with business interests and landed families but I also provide cost-effective and focussed advice to those with more modest assets. I have assisted in complex children cases dealing with residence and schooling applications as well as contact disputes.

What do others say?

We are very proud of our family team at Mills & Reeve and were delighted when this was recognised at the Legal Business Awards, where we won Private Client Team of the Year 2009. We pride ourselves on giving excellent clear advice tailored to the individual needs of our clients. In addition, Chambers UK describes us as “becoming a truly national player for family matters” whilst “clients appreciate the team’s practical, problem-solving approach and suggest that this is one way in which Mills & Reeve differentiates itself from its competitors”.

One client commented: “I have nothing but praise for the work that Laura Brodie did during and after my case was closed. I always had the feeling that she dealt with my case with the utmost importance (regardless of her, I'm sure, very busy work load). Laura was always very professional and yet very personable in the way that she dealt with me as her client, it made what was a very important and sensitive family issue that much easier to deal with.”

What else should you know?

I am a member of Resolution, an organisation of family lawyers committed to dealing with family breakdown amicably. I am an active member of Cambridge and West Suffolk Resolution and of the region’s Young Resolution group as well as the focus group launching the new initiative, Parenting After Parting. You can find straightforward advice and resources relating to a wide range of family issues on our team’s website, www.divorce.co.uk.

I also volunteer as a clerk for the trustees of the Cambridge Family Mediation Service to assist the service and to stay in touch with alternative methods of dispute resolution and am involved in organising pro bono work in the local area through FLAG (Free Legal Advice Group).
