What can I do for you?

I specialise in the fast paced and ever changing area of employment law, assisting employers to deal with the legal aspects of managing their workforce. My work includes advising on one off ad hoc employment queries, drafting contracts and compromise agreements and defending claims that have been brought by employees in the employment tribunal.

I have experience of conducting litigation in respect of unfair dismissal, discrimination and unlawful deduction of wages claims. Although our employment team acts for a wide range of businesses, my experience has been focused on public sector organisations and their employment needs.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

Our aim is to help clients avoid disputes but, where this is not possible, we are here to deal with employment litigation in the most efficient and cost effective manner.

I recently assisted in achieving a nominal settlement for one of our clients in an unfair dismissal and disability discrimination claim. The ex-employee had claimed a substantial sum of compensation and the tribunal hearing had been listed for ten days, which would have been a considerable cost to the client.

However, where there is a matter of principle involved, we are certainly not afraid to fight for the right result in tribunal. I was recently involved in successfully defending a large claim for unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistle blowing against an NHS client. Settling such a claim would not have sent the correct message to the wider workforce and, having secured a successful outcome, it is unlikely that other employees will bring a claim on the same point.

What do others say?

One of the most common things we hear is that our team is approachable and friendly. I have heard clients comment that they consider the lawyers in our team to be an extension of their own team. Our clients feel that they can pick up the phone to us at any time for quick and practical advice, which gets to the heart of the matter straight away.

What else should you know?

I belong to the Employment Lawyers Association, which is helpful for keeping up to speed with developments in the employment sector. This information is shared with our clients via our monthly email newsletter, e-Post, which helps them keep up to date with this rapidly changing area of law.
