Insights from Chloe Bucktin, a senior solicitor in the real estate team in our Birmingham office:
How would you describe the culture of your office?
Hard working, supportive and most importantly - good humoured!
What is the actual office like as a place to work in?
The open plan nature of the office creates a real sense of togetherness, and I have always found my colleagues (at all levels) to be friendly, approachable and willing to help out.
What kind of hours do you work?
I work three and a half days a week, and my hours are usually between 9am to 5.30pm. At busier times I do work longer hours – but this is only occasionally.
How long does it take you to get into work?
About 45 mins.
What kind of social life do you enjoy with your colleagues?
We have a bit of a passion for karaoke in my team (despite the fact that none of us can sing!) so we can often be found belting out a few Elton John numbers in the local karaoke bar.
What local bars and restaurants do you recommend?
Reflex (for karaoke), All Bar One (for a glass of wine and a great steak sandwich), Bodega (for authentic Mexican food and cocktails) and Hotel du Vin (for good French food and Champagne). Birmingham has a fantastic selection of restaurants. But don’t just take my word for it – see what the New York Times has to say about Birmingham’s restaurants.
What else is there to do in Birmingham?
If you need a bit of retail therapy you can’t beat the Bull Ring – and in particular Selfridges. Symphony Hall and the Hippodrome are great venues for music and the performing arts. If you have children then a visit to the National Sea Life Centre followed by a meal at Pizza Express always goes down well. And finally, for something a little bit different, why not take a cultural tour round the historic Jewellery Quarter?
