What can I do for you?

I work within a large and dynamic group of lawyers advising in the ever developing and challenging area of healthcare law. My clients include large NHS trusts and primary care trusts with complex and fascinating issues involving both contentious and non contentious matters. I work with clients to provide advice and training on all patient related matters. As part of one of the country’s leading healthcare teams I have developed a particular interest in working with clients to provide both advice and advocacy support at inquests and advice in data protection requests, child care law and mental health issues.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

Working with clients to achieve their goals gives me a real adrenalin drive. Providing training and lecturing to a large PCT on patient consent, capacity and record keeping issues provided a dynamic arena to initiate client debate, raise controversial issues and provide simple, informed and essential advice to the client. As a project it proved a great success for the client by instigating innovative ideas for future management within the organisation and a request to work together to produce an interactive training manual for employees.

I have been fortunate enough to assist senior colleagues of my team to test the legal framework around which the NHS operates. I have assisted in a recent Court of Appeal case, X v NHS Trust. A real highlight for me was assisting in the judicial review to challenge the legality of a smoking ban at a high security mental health hospital. This topical issue touched upon complex legal issues, which provided exciting issues to explore and develop with our client.

What do others say?

Legal 500 rank our healthcare team as “tier one”. The energy of the team has been reflected by our clients’ feedback. At a recent training session, a client commented that the afternoon’s training was “absolutely fantastic” and “you clearly knew your subjects and appeared in complete control”. As a team, we worked with our clients to meet their deadlines without compromising standards. Clients have commented: “Thank you very much for your timely advice in this matter” and “Thank you very much for this very useful advice”.

What else should you know?

I belong to Birmingham Medico Legal Society providing insight into medical and clinical matters, which is helpful for keeping both myself and my clients up to speed on medical and clinical issues. I am a member of Birmingham Young Solicitors society, Birmingham Future and Birmingham Forward. All organisations provide a dynamic opportunity for meeting new people and developing potential links to share with my clients. Within my team we provide our clients with access to the Healthcare Resource Centre, which provides instant advice on a diverse range of healthcare matters.
