This coming summer London will host the greatest shows on earth: the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games - THE feelgood event in what is likely to be a difficult year for the UK.
The marketing opportunity of the year? Or a dangerous minefield to be avoided?
In order to protect the interests of the Olympic and Paralympic bodies and the official sponsors, sweeping legislation has been enacted in the UK to clamp down on ambush marketing, a breach of which can result in tough civil (and even criminal) penalties. This will be vigorously enforced by LOCOG (The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games).
Our seminar will provide you with a practical, "off the fence" guide to help you navigate your way around this legislative minefield. We will provide you with the following:
- An overview of the legislation, focussing on
(i) The relevant Olympics Association Rights: what they are; when they are infringed; what the penalties are,
(ii) Prohibited advertising and street trading in the vicinity of Olympics and Paralympics events: what activities are prohibited; when and where these activities are prohibited; what the penalties are.
- Use of Olympics and Paralympics athletes in advertising: when and how can this be done?
- Olympics and Paralympics trade marks: avoiding infringement.
- An interactive workshop, considering and discussing likely scenarios.
- And finally - "Traffic light tips"
(i) Red: what never to do.
(ii) Green: what is safe to do.
(iii) Amber: where you will first need legal advice.
