What can I do for you?
I am a technology lawyer and I specialise in IT law and data protection. I can typically be found drafting and negotiating IT contracts, from major IT outsourcing projects for public authorities and PLCs to “software as a service” agreements for early-stage businesses. I also advise on web compliance issues, such as selling online.
Supporting my clients’ objectives
A couple of recent successes illustrate the sort of work I do. I worked with the procurement team at a PLC client to establish a multimillion-pound framework agreement for development and support services for a business critical application. We resolved significant issues over liability, service levels and benchmarking in an agreement that provides a clear and robust basis for our client’s relationship with a key supplier.
I also helped a US client establish a compliant basis for sharing employee data between EU subsidiaries and the US parent company. We worked alongside the in-house team and our EU associates to put in place a workable solution that complies with the various data protection regimes.
What do others say?
We try to provide a top quality service in a personable way. After the successful completion of one particularly gruelling project, the client said she was thankful for our team’s “commitment and unfailing good humour”. One client also said of my data protection experience that I have “in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm for an often neglected subject area”. Alarmingly, one client called me a "commercial ferret".
What else should you know?
I regularly attend events held by the Society for Computers and Law and by Intellect to keep up to speed with the latest in IT law. I am joint editor of Naked Law, our technology law blog. I also contributed to two recent books: Blogging and Other Social Media and the Law Society’s Data Protection Handbook.
