What can I do for you?

I’m a solicitor in the family team at Mills & Reeve. At the last count, the team was the largest family team in Europe, making it a really diverse and interesting team to work in. This also translates into a huge benefit for clients as there is generally a lawyer “in house” to deal with issues that arise on cases, for example, from the most straightforward financial settlement to a complicated jurisdiction argument. I advise on a wide range of issues surrounding relationship breakdown, both in terms of what happens with finances and, more importantly, any children.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

Relationship breakdown is akin to a bereavement for many clients and it is my job to make the legal process as simple and easy as it can be. I believe it is important to ensure my clients focus on the bigger picture and to try not to become involved in mud slinging against the other party, especially if there are children concerned. I take as non-confrontational an approach as is possible, and try to encourage my clients to do the same. It is the end goal of achieving what is fair and what is in the best interests of any children that is my focus.

What do others say?

The team is regularly quoted in Chambers UK and Legal 500 and is top rated in both. We also make up part of Mills & Reeve’s wider private client team and we were recently awarded the Legal Business Awards 2009 Private Client Team of the Year.

In terms of personal comments, one client recently said: “I have been impressed with the professionalism, attention to detail and prompt action with which Rachel Walker has dealt with my business at Mills & Reeve this year. I would be very happy for her to deal with any issues which I may have in the future.”

What else should you know?

I am a member of Resolution which is an organisation of family lawyers who are dedicated to dealing with cases in as amicable and constructive a way as possible, and I really buy into this. The team also has its own website, www.divorce.co.uk, which is an invaluable tool for anyone that is going through relationship difficulties.
