What can I do for you?
I am a versatile corporate and commercial lawyer with over ten years’ experience advising clients on a broad spectrum of corporate and commercial work. I am also qualified in Scots law. My practice includes advising clients on acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, equity investments, group reorganisations, setting up partnerships (eg, LLPs or limited partnerships), general company law, corporate governance and bespoke commercial contracts. I act for clients in both the private and public sector and enjoy working with clients across all sectors.
Supporting my clients’ ambitions
During the credit crunch, I advised a property investment company on a £60 million acquisition of a property through a corporate structure. The transaction was all the more complicated because it involved two overseas jurisdictions. There was a real sense of satisfaction in completing the transaction given the deteriorating market conditions at the time and it therefore took a lot of drive and commitment to get the deal done.
Another highlight in my career to date has been undertaking a number of client secondments. I have undertaken secondments with a leading UK airline, a FTSE 100 oil and gas company and a global defence company.
A client required extra legal in-house resource at very short notice in Delhi to support their in-country corporate counsel working on the initial public offering of their Indian oil business on the Bombay Stock Exchange and The National Stock Exchange of India. I quickly travelled to India and spent just over four months working in Delhi supporting my client during an intensive period of activity in order to achieve a successful flotation, which was at the time, one of India’s largest initial public offerings.
Time spent in industry has developed my commercial knowledge and understanding of the needs of business and what they want from their lawyers. I also learnt how to apply the law on a daily basis in an operational environment and in a practical and focused way.
What do others say?
At the end of my most recent secondment to a global defence company, I received a lot of complimentary comments from those I worked with so closely. The following comment stood out: “Thank you, I really appreciate all your hard work and the excellent support you have given me and the business. Ours is a complex business and you picked up the challenges with relish and have driven practical solutions through for us – Thank You.” It was great to receive positive feedback.
The client on the other side of a complex project, which had a demanding timetable said: “Lastly thanks for all your efforts, your commitment to your client and sacrifice of your own time was wonderful.”
Legal 500 says: “Clients continue to be impressed by the team’s can-do attitude and impeccable response times.”
