Steve Allen, a partner in our commercial disputes team, was named the “International Solicitor of the Year” at the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards.
He was presented with the award in recognition of his international legal work and his efforts to raise Birmingham’s profile on the global business stage.
According to the judges’ comments, Steve impressed them with his “considerable achievements in international work, as well as his extensive external involvement”.
Steve established the commercial disputes team in Birmingham in 2005, after joining the firm from Wragge & Co. Since then the team has grown to seven lawyers.
The majority of Steve’s work is international, acting for companies based in Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Holland and Sweden. He also has a specific interest in the USA and is a board member of the British American Business Council (BABC) Midlands Chapter. In this role he has played a major part in helping to forge links and promote transatlantic trade between US and Birmingham-based businesses. Steve also represents all the UK Chapters of the BABC on the BABC’s governing Executive Committee in New York.
The awards were presented at glittering ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, which more than 500 people attended.
The winners were chosen by an independent panel of judges, chaired by former national Law Society president Kevin Martin.
Bernard Shepherd, president of Birmingham Law Society, said: “Congratulations to all the winners who thoroughly deserved their awards.”
