What can I do for you?
I head a team of lawyers who help clients with the drafting and negotiation of all types of construction and engineering documents. We work with everyone involved in the sector – occupiers, developers, funders, contractors and consultants – and have a strong track record in education, health and regeneration projects.
I also head our national academies practice, leading a dedicated team skilled in advising clients on all aspects of academies projects. We are also helping clients with the exciting challenges associated with establishing free schools.
Supporting my clients’ objectives
My team appreciates that the end product of our work should be a successful construction or engineering project or academy, ideally one that’s delivered on time and within budget. The challenge is to help our clients meet that goal every single time.
I lead our team advising the Academies Enterprise Trust, one of the country's most successful providers of academies, on the acquisition and development of a number of academies. The entire team was delighted to get this feedback from the trust's chair: "It has been comforting to know that the team at Mills & Reeve were on top of the brief and giving us clear advice."
What do others say?
I appear to have persuaded one client to enjoy contract law: “I wanted to write and thank you for the time we spent working together ... It has been an excellent time and I have learnt a hell of a lot, not least how to manage a major project with good humour. I have even enjoyed the contractual aspects of the work, and there can't be many who can say that – entirely due to my legal team.”
Our team is rated by both Legal 500 ("first-class") and Chambers UK ("an increasingly national profile").
What else should you know?
In addition to our construction and engineering law blog, Practical Completion, I am a member of the PLC Construction consultation board and I contribute regular articles to the trade (especially Building and Estates Gazette) and local press. I also write a blog on legal and property issues for the Birmingham Post.
