What can I do for you?
I specialise in advising clients on the construction, facilities management and interface documents on PFI and PPP transactions and traditional construction projects. I also advise on disputes relating to PFI and PPP transactions and construction disputes.
As part of our successful projects and construction teams, I have experience in a wide range of sectors, including student and key worker accommodation, schools, health, social housing, defence, infrastructure, transport and waste.
Supporting my clients’ objectives
A lot of my work includes helping clients, such as commercial sponsors, funders, authorities, contractors and sub-contractors, to negotiate and agree a set of construction documents that meet our client’s objectives. I also help clients resolve disputes relating to PFI and PPP projects and other construction disputes.
A highlight for me was the work we carried out for a bidder on its student accommodation project. We had to consider the bidder’s commercial aims for various complex issues and use our experience and judgement to obtain the most beneficial commercial agreement.
The work was particularly rewarding as the project was procured under competitive dialogue and we also had to respond to challenging timescales. The process involved a number of different areas: shareholder issues, company matters, tax, insurance, employment, pensions, technology, construction and facilities management. The project involved a vast number of people and a whole range of commercial approaches. It was worthwhile as the consortium’s bid was successful.
Recently, I have also worked with construction clients on a number of large PFI and construction disputes. This has been good for me as I have been involved in complex adjudications and I was able to obtain a successful result for my clients.
What do others say?
One of the most common things we hear is that our team is approachable and friendly.
Legal 500 also says that our projects team has “very good sector knowledge – better than most competitors".
But my favourite comments come from clients. We recently helped one on a complex PFI project and they said that we were “clear-headed on all of this” and that the advice was “helpful and pragmatic”.
What else should you know?
I belong to the International Project Finance Association (IPFA) and the Society of Construction Law, which is helpful for keeping my clients up to speed with developments in the projects and construction sector. I also organise seminars and training for clients on a wide range of issues relating to the projects and construction sector.
