Roger Bamber, partner in our family team, has been named Most Innovative Family Lawyer of the Year at the inaugural Jordan’s Family Law Awards.
The award, which recognises the lawyer who has applied the most innovative solutions to promote and enhance their practice and led the way for other practitioners to follow, acknowledged Roger's outstanding contribution to the family team's developments in the last twelve months.
Judges were particularly impressed by the Mills & Reeve Divorce UK iPhone app which Roger played a pivotal role in developing, as well as a YouTube channel containing more easily accessible free guidance. Roger has been leading the way in the pioneering use of digital platforms since 1998 when he developed
www.divorce.co.uk, a renowned online resource for those going through a marriage break-up. The site was the first of its kind to be developed by a law firm and was set-up to provide individuals with free information and practical advice to help them to take control of the divorce process.
More recently, Roger has developed the "My divorce and separation calculator", which can be found on
moneyadviceservice.org.uk. The easy to use tool helps those going through a break-up to stay on top of their finances, work out what they owe, and create scenarios for splitting possessions. The calculator, which has become particularly popular in China, was also praised in the Government’s Family Justice Review Interim Report.
Roger is a specialist family lawyer with nearly 30 years’ experience and deals mainly with complex financial issues that need to be negotiated or litigated when a marriage ends. He has advised a range of individuals over his years in practice from the owners of large landed estates to high profile figures. A Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Roger has always been at the forefront of advancements within family law and is a leading commentator and an acknowledged pioneer of collaborative law. In 1990 he was one of the first mediator lawyers to be trained in the UK and was part of the first group in the UK to train as a collaborative lawyer.
