Training

We want to provide our trainees with the richest possible experience at Mills & Reeve. That means giving you early responsibility and the chance to fully understand what being a lawyer is all about. While you will be involved in City quality work, you’ll also be able to learn the ropes in a supportive environment.

We will pair you with a partner or senior solicitor who will act as a mentor during the course of your two-year training contract. They will be available for confidential support and career development advice.

You will be working in one of our Birmingham, Cambridge or Norwich offices, undertaking six four-month seats. These seats are in a wide range of areas. However, if you want to experience something not practised in your base office, there may be an opportunity to temporarily move to our Leeds, London or Manchester offices.

On-the-job learning is supported by our Professional Skills Course and a programme of in-house lectures and one-to-one training. You will also receive instruction on Felix (our in-house know-how system) and comprehensive IT training.

Your performance will be assessed by a mix of informal reviews during each seat and a more formal review at the end of each seat.

Your training never ends

As an Investor in People, we are committed to developing your career after you qualify. We will help you to identify your own tailor made training plans, provide an array of in-house seminars and supplement these with professional and technical training.
