What can I do for you?
I lead a team of our lawyers who advise venture capital funds and business angels and angel groups in their investments, predominantly in technology businesses. We also help fast growth and emerging technology businesses get set up, raise funds through equity or debt financings and grow their business' activities through to successful exits, such as trade sales, management buy outs or IPOs. I am particularly interested in university spin outs and have advised in relation to over 60 spin outs from universities throughout the UK including Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and East Anglia.
Supporting my clients’ objectives
A real highlight for me is the work we have undertaken for one of our university spin out clients. It’s been particularly satisfying as we’ve advised them since spin out. We advised the business on a number of venture capital fundraisings, raising an aggregate of over £26 million from a syndicate of five VC investors. We have also helped the company make a strategic technology acquisition from one of the leading international providers of defence and security based services and have set up two international joint ventures with multinational leaders in the integrated power systems and mining sectors. Our client is now well placed to scale up its technology, commission and operate a pilot plant and embark on commercial supply. I am very proud to have played a part in this.
What do others say?
Our team is well known for practical, commercial solutions and for our depth of resource. In Chambers UK, clients say I am “enthusiastic about supporting small companies and offer an efficient and pragmatic approach to deals”. In addition, my “advice is extremely thorough”.
