What can I do for you?

I am a professional indemnity insurance lawyer and deal with claims against a range of professions, but I specialise in claims brought against construction professionalsinsurance brokers and solicitors.

I am regularly instructed to act for and advise construction professionals, including architects, engineers and contractors when they face claims. I have dealt with claims arising from defects at several high profile buildings throughout the North West, an offshore wind farm and a petrochemical plant among others. I am regularly instructed to act for insurance brokers when something has gone wrong for their client and I work closely with them to help to mitigate losses which have been suffered. Using my knowledge and experience gained from defending claims against brokers, I have provided risk management training to a number of large firms of brokers and the CII which I am a member of. I have handled claims against solicitors for more than 15 years and have helped solicitors and partners of law firms manage, defend and resolve claims arising from most of the areas of practice that solicitors specialise in.

My key objective is to ensure that my clients’ objectives are achieved quickly and efficiently by adopting an open, pragmatic and commercial approach to the resolution of claims. Many of the cases I deal with involve alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and I have resolved numerous claims using mediation. I have enjoyed secondments with insurers and brokers and have seen first hand the demands placed on my clients’ time. I always try to ensure that my advice is concise, straightforward, practical and commercial.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

An appropriate and cost effective solution can be found to almost any claim, and my aim is to ensure that resolution is achieved in a manner that is acceptable to both my insurer and insured clients. I work with my clients to ensure that an appropriate strategy is decided upon as early in the case as possible and then followed. I also consider that it is important to understand the issues affecting my clients because their views are important both to help me understand the strengths and weaknesses of the claim and to help to shape my advice.

What do others say?

We are known for having approachable and friendly lawyers. We are also admired for our ambition and speed of growth. Clients also like that our insurance team is part of a large firm so they can draw on a wide range of services such as construction, real estate and tax. Another plus our clients mention is that, although we’re based around a London hub, we are a truly national practice and can act for insured clients across the UK.

On a personal level, I was very proud to learn that clients asked for feedback by Chambers & Partners had praised my "direct and open approach" and that I am "hard-working, diligent and able to grasp complex situations really quickly", while others have noted me as a "rising star in the area". A major reason for this is the strength of the first class team that I am lucky to work with, as demonstrated by Chambers description of our Manchester team as "market-leading" and our ranking in Band 1 for professional negligence in Manchester.

Legal 500 reports that I am a ‘clear and concise communicator" and that my team in Manchester has a ‘strong and visible brand in Manchester’. I was very pleased to see that our clients have reported that we are an ‘accessible, responsive and knowledgeable team that is willing to go that extra mile when needed’.
