What does the role involve?

We are looking for a commercial solicitor to work in our national CIPIT (Commercial, IP and IT) Team.  You will undertake a wide range of work across a variety of our core sectors.  Work will include advice on commercial contracts, high-value supply and purchasing arrangements, agency and distribution arrangements, outsourcing; projects, IT agreements, intellectual property, and data protection.At this level, we will expect you to work on drafting/reviewing terms and conditions of sale and purchase; drafting/reviewing long term supply/purchasing agreements; drafting agency and distribution agreements; working on outsourcing and contract manufacture type agreements; providing data protection advice and working on related documentation (e.g. privacy notices); providing advice relating to commercial contracts, IT and IP.  For example - this might be around contract interpretation or a particular issue such as Brexit or the impact of the pandemic on certain contract provisions.As part of our top-ranked team based in Birmingham, you will have the opportunity to work with a range of lawyers, including working directly alongside a partner, Jayne Hussey, on larger commercial contracts.

What experience is required?

You will be NQ+ years pqe qualified with experience gained in a City firm or large regional firm.  You will have good technical skills in commercial law with an interest in IP and IT. You will be an enthusiastic and a commercially-minded lawyer, who is prepared to turn your hand to a wide range of work.

What skills and attributes would I need?

You will be able to demonstrate an interest in commercial law and how it impacts on relationships between businesses.  You will have an interest in understanding what makes businesses work and an ability to ask the right questions about what clients are trying to achieve from their commercial relationships.  You will possess an ability to understand the environment that clients work in and to deliver advice that advises, both orally and in writing. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate flexibility to apply fundamental legal and commercial skills to a diverse range of contracts and arrangements, and show dedication to providing outstanding client service.You will possess good academics, excellent written English and ability to produce clear, logical drafting.  You will have numeracy, negotiating skills, lateral thinking and problem solving skills.  In addition, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  You will demonstrate flexibility to work with team members, be effective at time and matter management and have a systematic approach to work.  You will be a proactive team player, be able to demonstrate IT literacy and good research skills.  Finally, you will have an enthusiasm for marketing with clients and multipliers
