What does the role involve?

We are looking for an employment solicitor to join our growing team of  employment lawyers based in Birmingham.  You will undertake a broad mix of contentious and non-contentious work with appropriate supervision as needed. Your work will be split between work for commercial, education and health sector clients, which include Jaguar Land Rover, River Island, Odeon Cinemas, University of Worcester, Cardiff University, West Midlands Ambulance, University Hospitals Birmingham and Manchester University Hospitals.The Birmingham team works for a wide range of sectors predominantly covering commercial, health, higher education, sports and charities.  It is part of the cross-office Employment, Pensions and Immigration NSL of 60 lawyers (including an employment judge) which is headed by David Mills, and supported by two professional support lawyers.  There are monthly cross-office NSL training sessions delivered by our professional support lawyers, together with cross-office and sector away days.At this level, you will be expected to perform as follows:

Client Service

To deliver outstanding client service to both internal and external clients to encourage client retention and referrals, as well as having a sound understanding of clients' legal, commercial and service requirements.  You will also have effective client relationships and client service skills.

Technical excellence

You will have strong technical competence and legal knowledge in employment law and will deliver high quality and commercially focused advice.

Business development

You will assist business development with existing and new clients and other professionals.

The person

You will have 1+ years' experience gained in a reputable firm with a substantive employment law practice. You will also have good employment law knowledge and experience, will good academics including a 2.1 degree (or equivalent). You will have a excellent written English for drafting purposes and very good presentation skills. You will also have very good time and documentation management skills, a keen attention to detail and the ability to build very good relationships with clients, potential clients and multipliersIdeally the candidate will have previous experience of providing employment law support and input to corporate transactions, including undertaking due diligence and drafting the employment provisions in transactional documents.  Ideally you will also have the ability to lead on employment tribunal matters, client training skills and advocacy, but this is not essential.
