What does the role involve?

We are looking to welcome an associate to our friendly and very busy projects team. We are looking for a candidate with relevant projects/commercial law experience.

The projects team is regularly involved in high value and high profile projects often with national importance. You will be acting for universities, the Ministry of Defence and other Government departments - MCA, DWP and Homes England - and private sector consortia bidding on projects.  You will be given responsibility to run your own projects and matters with support from the partners and principal associates in the team. You therefore need to be a confident self-starter and happy to take own initiative. Transactions will be varied and cover a range of sectors.

The projects and clients are based across the UK so you may sometimes be required to work away from home.

The role will include:

  • drafting and negotiating project documentation such as project agreements, high value commercial contracts, facilities management contracts and construction contracts;

  • liaising with other specialists in the firm to ensure a seamless legal service;

  • undertaking and co-ordinating project management;

  • actively participating in business development initiatives and marketing events, including preparation of tenders, attending pitches, writing articles, contributing to seminars and attending client hospitality events;

  • advising on the terms of the procurement process and drafting contract notices, drafting SQs and ITTs and advising on evaluation methodologies; and

  • mentoring more junior members of the team.

What experience is required?

You will be 3+ years PQE

What skills and attributes would I need?

  • relevant projects/commercial law experience;

  • the ability to give clear, simple and pragmatic advice;

  • thoroughness in review of documents;

  • good academics;

  • good inter-personal skills;

  • the ability to establish a rapport with colleagues, clients and multipliers;

  • the ability to work under pressure and often to tight deadlines;

  • enthusiasm; and

  • a “can-do” attitude.

Who will I be working with?

You will be working with partners, Andrew Ray, Jens Henniker Heaton and Stuart Thompson and other members of the projects team comprising 5 Principal Associates, 1 Senior Associate and 4 Associates.  The team is part of the wider Projects and Construction national service line headed up by Stuart Thompson.
