The role

We are looking for a commercial solicitor with experience of and/or an interest in health and care to work alongside and support our busy national Commercial Health team. Under supervision and working with the principal associate(s) and the partners, the successful person will undertake work for our impressive and varied range of private and public health sector clients, which includes household-name independent sector providers, NHS FTs, Trusts and local and national commissioners and take an active role in the growth and development of our Commercial Health business.

The work

The team‘s work includes advising on use, negotiation and delivery of the NHS standard contracts, clients on the development and implementation of Integrated Care, on primary care partnerships, joint ventures, sub-contracting arrangements, mergers and acquisitions including the acquisitions of GP practices (particularly within the independent health sector) and merging GP practices and their corporatisation. The work the team does also includes  being commissioners on clinical contracts and the legislative and regulatory framework underpinning the same focusing on contract management, service development and improving outcomes for patients; as well as providers on the limitations and opportunities arising in respect of existing and new clinical contracts. The work also includes commissioners and providers on non-clinical contracts, on place based partnerships, provider collaboratives and Primary Care Networks and  independent sector and NHS clients on health tech contracts and projects;. The team advise on corporate governance issues such as appropriate use of powers and public law duties and appropriate structures for carrying out certain activities,  large scale competitive procurements for long term and valuable contracts for both Contracting Authorities and NHS and IS bidding providers and  primary care contracts with doctors, dentists and pharmacists and the legislative and regulatory framework underpinning the same, Finally the team advise on co-operative developments between NHS bodies, local authorities and other partners and on legal structures for undertaking activities (collaborations, partnerships, joint ventures).

The person

You will be NQ+, with experience gained in a large regional or City firm with good technical skills in commercial law with an interest in healthcare. Ideally you will have experience of health sector, but we will also consider other applicants who can demonstrate excellent commercial legal skills with a breadth of commercial law. You will have good academics ideally 2.1 degree and A levels (or equivalents) with excellent written English and a keen eye for detail. We would also like someone with good research skills, including the ability to use online information sources and good IT skills. You will have the ability to build relationships with clients, potential clients and multipliers. You will have good listening and questioning and negotiating skills.
