What can I do for you?

I spend most of my time providing commercial solutions to private sector companies in the field of employment law. Yes, I provide legal advice, but what my clients generally want is a range of pragmatic solutions to meet their objectives, together with an understanding of the level of risk involved with each of the options provided. I work with all manner of organisations, from local start-ups to multinational plcs, with issues affecting staff in a number of countries.

I’ve been doing this for a while now. So, whatever issue you may have – however sensitive, complex or downright bizarre – the chances are that I’ve dealt with something similar before and can provide a clear route ahead for you. I’m here to help, whether you just want to bounce your ideas off me or need me close by at every stage of a difficult matter.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

The world has changed recently, and the downturn has led to many reorganisations and difficult issues. I hope that I understand how it feels to deal with these types of issues and the internal pressures you may face. Being an owner of and manager in a business means I have to deal with performance management, grievances, employment tribunal claims and redundancies as well.

Where I really feel that I’ve added value recently is that, in having advised on so many reorganisations, there are some clear areas in which traps and pitfalls can be avoided. Also, claims can be avoided, meaning that money and, possibly more importantly, management time can be saved.

I also appreciate the cost pressures that you may come under when looking to bring in external lawyers. We’ve got a really good team here with an excellent spread of experience. This means that we can provide you with a dedicated team who get to know your business and how you work. The work can be undertaken at the right level and therefore cost effectively.

You won’t find me talking about hourly rates that often either, as I prefer to give estimates and fixed quotes where possible. Most of our clients prefer to be able to budget, and the uncertainty of hourly rates doesn’t work in that scenario.

As a team, we send out lots of information and publications to keep you right up to date, and have an annual programme of seminars and workshops. Because I enjoy it, I also spend a lot of time speaking publicly or contributing articles to publications such as Personnel Today. I frequently visit clients, delivering bespoke in-house training, which I find to be very rewarding.
