Working with you to overcome your employment law challenges

We enjoy helping clients, and they enjoy working with us. We’re often told we’re approachable and responsive, and that we provide solutions based on our clients’ objectives, as well as their approach to risk and employee engagement.

Our client base gives us a deep understanding of the commercial, health and education sectors. With the help of our international network of lawyers we are also able to help clients when employment problems arise in connection with their operations overseas.

Our employment law advice delivers real value for money, thanks to our innovative pricing approach. You also benefit from our market-leading technologies, like our automated settlement agreement and tribunal case management system, which streamline processes and provide further cost savings.

Our fresh approach to training is welcomed by clients, and we also offer HR consultancy support. Our solicitors are often seconded to clients to assist with resourcing issues.

Our employment lawyers

We have 35 specialist employment lawyers.

Our work is supported by professional support lawyers, responsible for keeping our employment lawyers, precedents and publications up to date.

Our employment solicitors work with our specialists in other areas of law, including immigration, data protection and privacy, pensions, tax and intellectual property.

We are very experienced in assisting clients with issues that arise with their employees who are based overseas.

Our experience

Examples of our employment law experience include:

  • Successfully defending a longstanding entrenched employee dispute involving claims of race, sex, disability and age discrimination, with specific allegations directed at board members.
  • Defeating a high value race discrimination claim valued at £1.7 million.
  • Guiding the UK arm of a US-listed drug discovery company on the withdrawal of a pension scheme and amending employer contributions, including the collective consultation process.
  • Planning and effecting the exit of key individuals of a UK-listed medical diagnosis business, acquired by a US-listed group following a hostile takeover.
  • Supporting a UK-listed business through strike action initiated in its China operation which arose from unfounded allegations of whistleblowing – and then advising on redundancy law for the dismissal of all staff, and dealing with the resulting litigation.
  • Successfully defending UK employment tribunal proceedings brought against the UK arm of a South African-listed company by a South African national, who was employed to work in Angola.
  • Successfully advising universities and colleges on redundancy law issues relating to their strategic approach to voluntary and compulsory redundancies. This took into account collective engagement with staff and trade unions and university statutes.
  • Assisting a number of further education colleges on significant and successful mergers as well as corporate restructuring to facilitate cost effective shared services.
  • Advising a number of institutions on setting up and managing overseas offices and the engagement of both local and UK staff in a variety of jurisdictions, including India, China, Malaysia, USA, Bangladesh, Egypt, Singapore and most European countries.
  • Working with our corporate and education teams on the incorporation of a multi-academy trust, as well as the human resources management issues of the conversion of its schools to academies. Successfully providing expert employment transactional support to our NHS and private health clients on TUPE regulations, due diligence, outsourcing, redundancy and changes post-transfer.

Our employment solicitors also have a strong reputation for advising on complex employment tribunal litigation cost effectively and efficiently. We have instructions in more than 275 employment tribunal claims at any given point.
