Offering genuine energy sector strength

We believe that clients in this highly specialised sector require a core team of advisers with real industry knowledge.

That’s why we have a team in place with proven expertise in oil and gas (upstream, downstream, natural gas and LNG), renewables and clean technology (wind, tidal, solar photovoltaic and anaerobic digestion). This depth of knowledge allows us to deliver practical and commercial advice, specific to our clients’ needs.

Services we offer include advising on industry specific transactions, tax and contracts, resolving commercial and construction disputes, and giving expert advice on renewable energy projects to developers, investors and landowners.

Our team can also call on our wide range of lawyers across the firm with specialist expertise in other key areas, such as banking, corporate, tax, competition law, planning and environmental law.

This allows us to deliver a fully integrated service to our energy sector clients, which include leading names in oil and gas exploration through to independent contractors, suppliers, developers, landowners, investors and consultants.

Our energy sector lawyers

Our specialist energy team can advise on industry specific transactions, tax and contracts, including LOGIC terms and conditions, EPC and O&M contracts and gas and electricity trading agreements.

Our lawyers have particular expertise in resolving commercial and construction disputes in the oil and gas sector (including E&P and offshore).

We also provide expert advice on renewable energy projects for developers, investors and landowners.

Our experience in the energy sector

Our recent work includes advising on the following:

  • The world’s first large-scale eco city on Chongming Island off the coast of China.
  • The operation and investment by a university client of the £3.5 million Carbon Connections Fund awarded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England for investment into early stage businesses in the carbon reduction sector.
  • A bid from a leading water company for a new biomechanical waste and electric production facility in East London.
  • A £15 million multi-jurisdictional claim involving a multinational oil company, arising out of a well failure.
  • A £36 million project to establish an energy centre at Addenbrookes Hospital, which will save the Hospital £1 million each year in energy bills and reduce its carbon footprint by 25,000 tonnes per year.
  • A multinational company that manufactures and supplies metering equipment following claims by three major utility companies.
  • A multinational oil company following a vessels collision with the Sante Fe 140 offshore drilling rig.
  • An independent contractor providing diving and ROV services to the oil, gas and renewable energy industry under the LOGIC General Conditions or Contract for Marine Construction.
  • Landowners, developers and investors in relation to a variety of wind and solar energy projects across the UK.
