BIM4Regs

BIM4Regs is a government initiative thataims to incorporate Building Regulations, planning and health and safetyrequirements into BIM models.  The BIMTask Group, part of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, hascommissioned a working group to achieve this.

The intention is that regulatoryinformation will be embedded within BIM software so that design consultants cansee whether designs comply with the regulations.  BIM models will be able to highlight wheredesigns contravene the regulations.

This will be easier to achieve with sometypes of regulations than others, for example, regulations that requirejudgment to be used may be difficult to incorporate.  The current view is that approximately onethird of the relevant regulations could be incorporated into BIM softwareeasily.
