Pre-emptive injunction prevents anti-Olympic protest

Our real estates disputes team obtained a pre-emptive injunction to halt anti-Olympic protesters entering the campus of one of our higher education clients.

Our real estates disputes team has been busy this month for one of our higher education clients in obtaining a pre-emptive injunction to prevent protestors entering its large campus site, which is being used in part as residential accommodation for athletes competing in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Protestors had entered a nearby site owned by the HEI, one of whom was the subject of an "Olympic Asbo", and due to other factors there was a fear that the campus site might be the subject of anti-Olympic protests. The fear of disruption and protestors entering our client's campus site lead it to instruct us to take possession proceedings relating to its occupied site and to explore obtaining a pre-emptive injunction to cover its larger campus site. Two days later we had a pre-emptive injunction covering the whole of the campus site for the period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

If you think this is something that you are concerned about, or wish to explore with us, then do contact Richard Hanson, the partner who heads the real estate disputes team for our education group, and who dealt with the case.
