What can I do for you?

I specialise in the resolution of project disputes in the onshore and offshore construction, engineering, infrastructure and energy sphere and I am the head of Mills & Reeve’s contentious projects and construction practice.

My focus is on helping my clients develop and execute an effective dispute resolution strategy in line with their business objectives and any agreed dispute resolution budget.

Increasingly, I am asked by clients to get involved in dispute avoidance at earlier stages of the project, often being asked to provide focused advice on key aspects of contractual interpretation. This can help shape a strategy long before litigation/arbitration/adjudication is contemplated. I welcome the opportunity to help you whilst projects are live - when fast and effective advice can make all the difference - not just after things have irretrievably set themselves on a path of formal dispute resolution.

I offer a one stop, tenacious lawyering approach that means value for money and being at your side from start to finish.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

As a Mills & Reeve partner, building strong and long term relationships with clients is key to me. As well as representing my clients’ interests in the adversarial context, I am also their advocate within Mills & Reeve, looking out for their interests and adding value to the relationship.

I have a wealth of experience in court based dispute resolution, arbitration, adjudication and alternative dispute resolution of sizeable complex disputes (whether under the standard forms of contract like JCT, ICE, NEC, FIDIC, LOGIC, IChemE or bespoke turnkey or EPIC contracts). My clients include major corporations, local authorities, NHS trusts, universities, contractors, subcontractors and consultants. Drawing on this experience, I can help clients at both a strategic and tactical level, to achieve their 'dispute resolution' objectives. By standing in your shoes from day one and understanding the real issues in dispute, I am able to advise you as to the merits, likely costs of resolution, as well as when to fight and when not to.

What do others say?

I have held the elite 'Leading Individual' status in Legal 500 for several years which says "Martino Giaquinto leads on disputes and is a hugely savvy litigator with bags of experience, who achieves speedy, favourable resolutions for clients." - Legal 500 (2017)

In Chambers & Partners (2018), I am ranked as 'Band 1' and it says that "He looks at what really needs to be resolved in order to get to the heart of the matter". I have been described as "erudite" and rated for my "disputes acumen", being "first-class" and "competent and personable".

Over my career, I have been praised by clients and third parties for my hard work, commerciality and rigorous legal skills. My overall focus on client service has been and remains key. I have been instructed on matters for clients that I have appeared against in the past.
