Helping you to successfully deliver your project

We regularly advise private sector and public sector organisations on all stages of the public-private partnership (PPP) process. Our expertise spans many sectors, including education, defence, health, waste, transport, social services, blue light and prisons.

Our projects and PPP lawyers have successfully closed over 100 PPP projects for a range of leading companies, universities, healthcare trusts and other public bodies. We have a national reputation and are one of the few firms to be consistently recognised by the Chambers UK guide to the legal profession as a leader in this area.

In fact, many of our projects have been short-listed for and won national awards from leading bodies.

Our experience enables us to provide commercial input of the highest quality. We deliver the technical excellence that our clients demand, while differentiating ourselves by being more flexible and approachable than our competitors as well as offering exceptional value for money.

Our lawyers

Our projects and PPP team offers 16 lawyers, including four partners who are all recognised as leading individuals by Chambers UK and Legal 500.

Our projects and PPP experience

We have extensive experience helping a wide range of clients with their projects, including:

  • Aston University on its not-for-profit PPP project for the £215 million redevelopment of its entire student residential estate. The project used an innovative charitable joint venture structure and was the first not-for-profit PFI project to reach financial close in England.
  • Ministry of Defence on its aircraft platform and engine long term availability contracts for the Harrier, Typhoon and Tornado Aircraft with a combined value of £2 billion.
  • Ministry of Defence on the pro contracts with Capita and Serco for the provision of the British Army’s Recruiting Partnering Project and for the transformation of the MoD’s in-house shared services organisation, Defence Business Services, respectively.
  • Ministry of Defence on nine competitively tendered contracts with a combined value of over £1 Billion.  The contracts will combine the delivery of all soft FM services in the defence estate.
  • Aviva on the £500 million outsourcing of its domestic claims handling business, which was delivered through a novel joint venture, with complex profit sharing and incentivisation mechanisms.
  • Aviva on its entry to the student accommodation market acting on its £200 million senior loan to University Partnerships Programme in relation to the student accommodation project at University of Reading (the largest ever single private sector residential investment in a UK university) and on its £50 million senior loan to Uliving in relation to the student accommodation project at University of Essex.
  • Aviva on over 30 NHS LIFT schemes, with a combined value in excess of £300 million.
  • GEOAmey (a consortium) on its successful bid for three prisoner escort and custody services contracts, together worth £770 million.
  • May Gurney on long term service contracts with an aggregate value of over £1 billion.
