Launching our projects, renewables and net zero team with partner hire

We've appointed Nick Helm to bolster the launch of our projects, renewables and net zero practice.

Nick has more than 20 years’ experience gained in the UK and internationally in advising on major infrastructure and transport projects. Nick’s practice has more recently focussed on renewable generation, energy storage and heat networks with net zero being a consistent theme.

Passionate about the public sector, Nick has an excellent reputation for working with government bodies on net zero, EV charging and clean air procurements and his experience will enable Mills & Reeve to utilise its place on the Government’s Legal Service Panel to win new work.

He also maintains strong private sector client relationships in the renewables / net zero space, where his recent experience also takes in energy from waste. He maintains deep experience and contacts in the legacy PFI and PPP project space.

Nick has joined as a partner from Squire Patton Boggs where he led the infrastructure projects team in Manchester. As a partner in the Mills & Reeve commercial team, Nick will work closely with the environmental, real estate, construction and corporate teams across the firm’s seven offices to accelerate the growth of the renewables/net zero sector.

Nick, who will be based in the Manchester office, recently won the “Projects Partner of the Year” Award at the Legal 500 Northern Powerhouse Awards 2023.

Stuart Thompson, head of Mills & Reeve’s projects, construction and engineering team, said: “Nick’s arrival brings additional infrastructure projects and renewables strength to our cross-disciplinary team which is active across the UK. The burgeoning renewables and net zero sectors presents excellence opportunities and, with Nick’s appointment, we are ideal placed to capitalise on this and become a leader in the industry.”

Nick Helm said: “This is an exciting time to join Mills & Reeve as we launch our projects, renewables and net zero team. It’s great to see the senior commitment to this area and the excitement of colleagues at all levels about net zero projects in particular. It’s also exciting to be part of a vibrant, growing firm with ambitious plans for the future”.
