Mills & Reeve ranked among top innovative law firms by Financial Times

Mills & Reeve has maintained its ranking as the 33rd most innovative law firm in the Financial Times’ Innovative Lawyers: Europe list, with particular recognition for technology, people and social responsibility.

Mills & Reeve was also highly commended in the Innovative Lawyers in Technology Award for our work with GSK and Haleon last year, one of the biggest demergers in the sector.

The annual ceremony celebrates innovation within the legal sector in Europe. Innovation is at the core of Mills & Reeve, linking the firm’s strong culture of collaboration with technology and resources to find the most effective ways to help solve clients' problems.

The recognition for our people policies and social responsibility efforts follows last year’s success in the Financial Times’ 2022 list in which Mills & Reeve was praised for its work in diversity, inclusion, and client care.

Emma Jackson, head of legal technology & data at Mills & Reeve, said: “It’s great to see that our efforts have been recognised in the FT Innovative Lawyer awards. We continually strive to find new and exciting ways of using technology at Mills & Reeve, allowing us to deliver excellent legal services to our clients. Although innovation at Mills & Reeve is not all about the technology, we continue to use our people, process and technology approach to deliver client-centric solutions. We engage and empathise with our clients to fully understand their needs before leveraging technology driven solutions.

Recent examples of all three elements coming together include utilising low-code app development technology to develop flexible and bespoke webapp solutions for our clients. Design thinking workshops help to identify the clients exact requirements, while the technology team support with transforming that vision into a user-friendly reality."

Our legal process team often work closely with our lawyer teams and clients to identify opportunities to improve client efficiencies. In one particular example, what was once a manual process has now been transformed using process design, technology and automation innovation, to manage an entire process through a bespoke portal, which has drastically streamlined the process for both our internal teams and our client.”

ESG continues to be a key focus area for the firm. Last year we launched our first sustainability report, detailing our action to-date, ambitious environmental goals, and how we drive best practice at Mills & Reeve. In our podcast Talking ESG, we explore ESG issues and how they impact our firm, our people, clients and the wider communities that we serve.
