I lead the healthcare and mental health law teams here at Mills & Reeve. We have over 20 lawyers here to provide support, proactive advice, risk management lessons, advocacy and media input as well as the usual legal skills! Supporting my clients’ objectives
The world of continuing care presents lots of challenges for our PCT clients – a real highlight for me was the work I did for South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust around User Independent Trusts. The case is referred to in Personal Health Budgets: First Steps.
Mental health trust clients face their own fair share of challenges too particularly on the legislative front and my team is here to assist in the interpretation and application of that legislation and to fend off judicial reviews too!
Inquests affect all our clients and we work to support staff during a difficult and stressful time.

My team and I are very conscious of the additional pressures which the Cold Climate and the White Paper - Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS are bringing to bear on our clients. Certainly from a patient law perspective there will be interesting developments around the Cancer Drugs Fund, Health Watch, the "information revolution", health and social care boundaries and patient choice. We will be working alongside our clients as the Health Bill is published and the details become clearer.
