What can I do for you?

I have over 15 years' experience of working in all areas of commercial litigation and contentious procurement, with a very varied workload ranging from the traditional, such as complex litigation in the High and Appellate Courts, arbitration and mediation, to the less obvious such as helping with strategic decisions relating to a client’s business and advice in connection with specialist tribunals, such as the NHSLA and even the coroner’s court. My clients reflect this broad range of work and include listed companies, SMEs and clients within our specialist health and education practices. I also regularly deal with contentious insolvency work and other aspects of insolvency law.

Supporting my clients’ objective

Litigation is often regarded as a “distress purchase”. However, there is very little more satisfying than steering a client with a genuinely good case through a complex matter and achieving a result before the court or tribunal, which ensures the survival of the business.

One of my most satisfying cases came when I defended a client from a claim against them that started at about £7 million, but which, by the first day of the arbitration, had increased to approximately £25 million. After three weeks the claim was dismissed with costs against the claimant.

I have been involved in advising on a number of substantial disputes arising out of the public procurement regulations. The majority of this work has been on behalf of public authorities, but I also have experience of advising potential suppliers.

I recently defended a government agency against an unusual challenge to its procurement decision by way of judicial review and I also advised Colchester Institute Corporation in the first challenge by a contracting authority to the automatic suspension provisions under the Public Contract Regulations. I have a wide range of judicial review experience in a number of public law areas.

What do others say?

Our commercial disputes team is regularly in the top tier for commercial disputes and contentious insolvency work in both Chambers UK and Legal 500. We are regarded as a “strong team” with good strength in depth. Given that the process of litigation can be daunting for even the most sophisticated clients, there is no higher recommendation than: “I would certainly come to you again”.

What else should you know?

I am an associate member of R3, the Association of Recovery Professionals, and a member of the Procurement Lawyers Association. I am also a regular contributor to our firm's procurement blog and tweet on a variety of litigation and insolvency subjects from @MR_twittigator.
