Mills & Reeve announces new head of education sector

Partner Martin Priestley has been appointed as the firm’s new education sector leader in a move that will broaden and enhance Mills & Reeve’s offering to clients and organisations in this dynamic market

Martin is an experienced commercial lawyer who joined Mills & Reeve in 2018 from Pinsent Masons and specialises in advising clients on strategic collaboration and sourcing projects. As desk head for South East Asia, much of Martin's work is cross-border and includes helping universities to implement their international strategies in key jurisdictions throughout Asia, Africa, the US and Europe.

Mills & Reeve’s leading education sector team acts for a wide range of universities, colleges, national agencies, academies, educational businesses, and charities across the UK. It was recently commended in The Times’ Best Law Firms 2024 and is ranked in Band 1 (UK-wide) in the Chambers UK Guide 2024 for Education: Institutions (Higher and Further Education).

Martin said: “Our education sector practice is focussed on helping our clients to meet the many challenges the sector faces. I am delighted to have taken the reins of one of the UK’s foremost education sector practices. Our national team has built up deep sector understanding over many years – experience which our clients rely on to meet challenges and realise opportunities.

“I’m very much looking forward to spending time with our clients and to ensuring that our national team is aligned to clients’ needs. Internationally, part of my focus will be on deepening relationships with sector specialists within our best friend firms’ network.”

Charles Staveley, Mills & Reeve’s senior partner, added: “We’re confident that with Martin’s considerable education experience and the depth of our education practice and team, the sector will continue to flourish and grow, and I congratulate Martin on this key leadership appointment at the firm.
