What can I do for you?
People often ask me what I like about my job. The answer is easy. It is a wonderful combination of hugely complex tax and trust advice and understanding families and personal relationships. Someone said to me the other day “You know more about my family than I do”. I think that is a compliment. The focus is on working with you and your other professional advisers, it is a team effort.
Supporting my clients’ objectives
We want to understand your priorities and objectives and ensure we work with you to try and secure these. We aim to listen, rather than dictate, and are keen to develop long term relationships across the generations. It is about developing a team, both within Mills & Reeve, and externally, that is best able to meet and understand your needs and which generates a spirit of cooperation and common purpose. It is easy to say, but we genuinely try and find solutions rather than problems. At the end of the day, however, we operate in a harsh fiscal climate and believe that nothing makes up for the best, and most up to date, technical knowledge.
What do others say?
Legal 500 describes the team as “first rate”. On a personal level, a client interviewed by Chambers was kind enough to say “ He is a bright, erudite lawyer who knows exactly what he is doing. He is at the top of my list and has a knack for coming up with clever, yet practical solutions to difficult problems.”
Chambers has recently published "Justin Ripman's knowledge of tax law makes him a regional leader. He acts for a number of London-based entrepreneurs, as well as local landowners".
What else should you know?
I am a member of the Country Land and Business Association, National Tax Committee, which very much focuses on many of our clients needs and concerns. I also sit on the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Technical Committee, which is helpful in keeping me up to speed with technical developments in the tax and trust sector.
