What can I do for you?

I am an associate in our Cambridge health team and have over nine years’ experience advising health clients in the East of England on a wide range of contentious patient related work. I have significant expertise in dealing with inquests, having recently handled the case of David Gray, who was unlawfully killed by a German out-of-hours GP. I also specialise in mental capacity (including deprivation of liberty), mental health and issues of consent and obtaining declarations from the Court of Protection.

I can also help you with NHS continuing healthcare disputes, judicial review cases and any data protection or freedom of information queries you may have. I have a particular interest in the legal issues relating to children.

Supporting my clients’ objectives

I spent two years working on secondment one day a week at a mental health trust which considerably broadened my knowledge and understanding of issues facing NHS organisations.

My aim is to use this knowledge and experience to support my clients to reach decisions or outcomes that are legally sound but also right for them. A practical solution can sometimes be better than a legal one.

We know that you often have strict budgetary constraints. We pride ourselves on providing cost effective advice and transparency on costs. Talk to us and we will tell you if you don’t need our advice!

What do others say?

Following a complex Court of Protection case, one client said: “I would like to thank you for your commitment and expertise on this matter.”

Receiving instructions from a new trust following a client recommendation is also very satisfying. One client said: “I have been informed that you have been extremely helpful in providing advice and information to PCTs in respect of NHS funded continuing healthcare issues.”

What else should you know?

I organise a series of free seminars for our health clients called “Talking Practicalities”. The aim is to spend an afternoon discussing the practical issues that arise from a given topic. We often invite two external speakers who can offer contrary perspectives on the issue. (For details of our seminars see the "Events and seminars" section on the right of this page or click here to view a full list of our seminars for the health sector.)
