What can I do for you?
As part of our technology and commerce team, I specialise in all aspects of intellectual property law, including trade marks, copyright, designs and patents. I am able to assist with protecting your trade marks and designs (through registration), enforcing your intellectual property (by taking action against infringers) and defending you against infringement claims. I can also advise on intellectual property strategy, including developing and exploiting your intellectual property by drafting, advising on and negotiating the necessary agreements.
Supporting my clients’ ambitions
Recent highlights for me have been the following.
- We obtained registration, for a higher education institution, of a business critical trade mark, which the examiner initially objected to as being too descriptive
- We helped a regional development agency secure the withdrawal of a spurious copyright infringement claim made against them. Had this claim been pursued and publicised, it had the potential to impact negatively on one of the agency’s projects
- We advised on and drafted an intellectual property development and exploitation agreement for a regional NHS innovation hub. This is the first of the series of agreements to develop and exploit intellectual property that would otherwise be neglected, in the health sector
- I negotiated a multimillion-dollar assignment of intellectual property rights within the petroleum industry
- I advised London local authorities regarding intellectual property issues relating to the 2012 Olympics

What else should you know?
I am a member of the International Trademark Association, a worldwide not-for-profit membership association dedicated to the support and advancement of trade marks and related intellectual property and a member of the INTA Enforcement Committee.
I am also qualified as a South African attorney, having practised intellectual property law in South Africa for eight years before moving to the UK in 1999.
