The Pensions Regulator

The Pensions Regulator and the Financial Conduct Authority have announced a joint regulatory strategy for the next five to ten years, to address the way in which people save for retirement and access their pension. In this briefing we discuss four key issues you should consider.

  • Pensions Regulator - Joint regulatory strategy with the FCA announced; sentence passed on Workchain and its employees; outcome of Dominic Chappell’s appeal against his conviction; trustees warned to check that their scheme is not a master trust.
  • Consultations and inquiries - Government’s response to consultation on extending the Regulator’s powers; consultations on expanding the Ombudsman’s role, DB scheme consolidation and the pensions dashboard.
  • PPF -  Benefit review to implement the Hampshire decision.
  • Cases - 2015 changes to public sector were discriminatory; scheme prevented from making RPI to CPI change; fixed protection reinstated after HMRC revocation.
  • Looking ahead - Changes to automatic enrolment rates; FCA transfer advice rules and guidance.
