Mills & Reeve acts for disability charity Livability on merger

We have acted on the merger of Christian disability charities Livability and Prospects.

Livability, which employs over 1,600 people and has annual income of circa £45 million, provides services including residential care, a range of supported and independent living services, a brain injury rehabilitation centre, a school and a further education college for disabled people.

Prospects will become a subsidiary of Livability and currently employs 400 staff and has annual income of nearly £12 million. They provide support for people with learning disabilities and their families and run care homes.

The Mills & Reeve team was led by partner Neil Burton with lawyers from across the firm’s real estate, regulatory, employment, banking and commercial teams providing advice. The firm acts for over 250 charities clients including the British Council, the Wellcome Trust, the Royal Shakespeare Company and English Heritage, adding Livability to the rostrum last year.

Neil who heads up the firms’ charities practice, said: “We were delighted to advise Livability on this merger and provide them with the full service support they needed from across our practice areas. As a new client we have already built up an excellent relationship with Livability and look forward to working with them in the future.”

Dave Webber, chief executive of Livability, said: “We are grateful to Neil and the Mills & Reeve team for guiding us expertly though the merger. Their charity sector expertise was clearly apparent throughout the process and it was reassuring to know they had all bases covered with regards to the property, employment and myriad of other aspects this deal involved.”
