Our pension lawyers

Our pensions team works closely with our colleagues in other teams to provide expertise where necessary from our national banking, corporate, commercial, employment, real estate and tax teams. Our experience includes working across a wide range of sectors. In particular, we have a huge amount of experience in advising on pensions investment matters, pensions risk management, charity and public sector pensions issues. 

Our pensions experience

Here are just a few examples of our recent experience:

  • project managing with other scheme advisers the closure and buy-out of three defined benefit schemes
  • acting for an employer by reviewing scheme documentation with a restrictive amendment power and recommending the best approach to close the scheme to future accrual
  • advising trustees on the merger of three schemes into a large defined benefit scheme
  • advising on "new" Fair Deal when services are outsourced or transferred between public sector providers
  • acting for private and public sector bodies on issues relating to participation in the Local Government Pension Scheme, NHS Pensions Scheme and the Teachers’ Pensions Scheme
  • advising on de-risking and liability management projects, including asset-backed contribution arrangements
  • advising on all aspects of occupational pension scheme governance, including drafting scheme documentation
  • negotiating complex investment management documentation
  • advising on the pensions aspects of corporate transactions
  • acting on contentious pensions matters including IDRP and Pension Ombudsman complaints.
