Appointment of ICS chairs and designate Integrated Care Board chairs fully underway

NHS England’s announcement that 25 Integrated Care Board chairs have been appointed to the 42 Integrated Care Systems across the country is a key element in the roadmap of ICS transition to statutory status by April 2022.  ICS leaders will have responsibility for the future of the health and care system within their region.

According to NHS England’s announcement, a robust selection process to appoint the independent ICS chairs was undertaken.  As for the remaining 17 ICSs, the incumbent independent chairs either indicated they wished to step down, there is currently a vacancy or there will be a vacancy by April/ May 2022, or the incumbent is in an interim position.

NHS England has set out the current status for each ICS, indicating whether the individual is also the NHS Integrated Care Board chair designate or whether a recruitment process is underway. You can view the regional list here.

NHS England report that when ICB chairs are in place, the recruitment process will move on to the appointment Integrated Care Board chief executives-designates.
