An NHS imperative: funding the Frontline Digitisation programme

It is widely agreed that successful digital transformation projects deliver multiple benefits from improved clinical outcomes to patient/user experience to securing financial savings at a regional and national level. With reports on the re-allocation of digital transformation funding to cover funding shortfalls, techUK in collaboration with its members have published an evidence pack making the case for continued investment in digital transformation for health and care.

techUK reports that the “diminishing financial support” for digital health within NHS England is causing a “ripple effect” across the sector with many innovators negotiating financial challenges, making it increasingly difficult for these companies to sustain business in the UK. Funding is key says techUK to driving the technology sector with the digital health market estimated to be worth £23.98 billion by 2025.

The evidence pack presents case studies that demonstrate the need to invest in digital, data and technology services to help meet the three priorities set out in the 2023 NHS Mandate:

  1. Cut NHS waiting lists and recover performance
  2. Support the workforce through training, retention and modernisation
  3. Deliver recovery through data and technology
