Mills & Reeve act for The University of West London on the “Heart of Slough” project

We have completed the sale of the redundant Thames Valley University campus in Slough, to Slough Borough Council, on behalf of their client The University of West London.

The site forms the bedrock of the Council's £500 million "Heart of Slough" regeneration project, expected to trigger the largest single local authority regeneration project seen outside of London. The project, in which the University will have a continuing interest, is forecast to provide 1,400 homes, 45,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, and 250,000 sq ft of offices.

Changes in public funding rules, cheap debt and a desire to plug revenue gaps have incentivised local authorities to pro-actively bring forward these types of projects, and this is one of a number of similar transactions with which the Mills & Reeve Real Estate team has recently been involved.

Nick Harris who led the team said: “This has been a fantastic project to be involved with and a great example of our sector knowledge and expertise in this area. There are so many opportunities presented by this regeneration project and we will be watching with great interest as it takes shape.”
