Louis Geary-Smith is an employment lawyer with a difference, drawing on professional experience in creative industries and an academic background in psychology and philosophy.

Louis is committed to providing solutions based not just on how things are normally done, but on how they ought to be done given each client's circumstances.

What can Louis do for you?

Louis advises businesses and individuals in commercial employment, labour and Equality Act-related matters.

This includes drafting documents, advising and dispute handling in relation to contracts of employment, service agreements, HR policies and procedures, employment status, restrictive covenants, working time, remuneration, dismissal, redundancy process, discrimination, TUPE transfers, industrial relations and corporate due diligence.

Supporting your ambitions

Louis's enthusiasm for all things employment law is underpinned by a deep general interest in people, organisations and communication.

Before joining Mills & Reeve as a trainee solicitor, Louis consulted at various marketing communications agencies, where he helped to grow diverse household-name brands through content creation, public relations, brand strategy and product innovation.

As a student of psychology and philosophy at Oxford University, Louis specialised in the neural basis of decision-making and memory, and the philosophy of logic and language.

Fostered by his broad professional and academic experience, Louis is a deep and divergent thinker. He endeavours to find lasting solutions for clients and constantly seeks opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.

What do others say?

Clients have described Louis as "swift and efficient", "confident and knowledgeable" and "very responsive and helpful throughout".

What else should you know?

Louis is an active participant in Mills & Reeve's diversity networks, recognising that everyone stands to benefit from broadening diversity and inclusion.

In particular, Louis has been instrumental in enhancing access to workplace adjustments across the firm, he has led outreach initiatives with local schools and he is a vocal advocate of gender-neutral drafting.

Outside of work, Louis is bass singer and deputy in the choir of Norwich Cathedral, as well as playing hockey for Norwich Dragons Hockey Club.

Louis once jointly represented the firm in a Rocket League tournament and is also a keen theatre-goer.
