What can James do for you?

James is a principal associate in our insurance disputes team, acting for professional indemnity insurers and their professional insureds. He advises insurers in relation a wide range of policy coverage matters. James also acts in the defence of a variety of professions including insurance brokers, lawyers and financial professionals. He has significant experience of litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.

Supporting your ambitions

James spent over a year seconded to one of the largest MGAs in the UK, working as the senior lawyer in the professional indemnity claims team. During that time he led on a fraud investigation which resulted in the refusal of cover for claims valued at over £3 million. The decision was subsequently upheld at arbitration.

James regularly works with insurance brokers and their insurers to challenge adverse policy decisions made by insurers, including advice on the application of the proportionate remedies provided by the Insurance Act 2015.

What do others say?

"We are now looking to expand our business into other areas and the work James has done, coupled with his advanced subject knowledge has been a key support in helping us achieve this. He is an absolute credit to Mills & Reeve and we are extremely grateful that you have given us the opportunity to work with him".

What else should you know?

Outside of the professional indemnity sphere, James organised our 2017 panel debate on the Future of Terrorism Insurance in the UK. The panel comprised representatives from Pool Re, the Association of British Insurers, the Federation of Small Businesses, global broker Lockton and Neil Coyle MP. A follow up report was published in 2018.
