We've been commended in the dealmaking category at the FT Innovative Lawyers Europe Awards 2026 for our role in advising the University of Kent on its landmark merger with the University of Greenwich.
The recognition, shared with Pinsent Masons, highlights our work on one of the most significant higher education transactions in recent years. The merger introduces a pioneering group structure that enables the universities to operate under a single legal framework while retaining their individual identities.
Working alongside the Office for Students and Department for Education, the universities secured approval for an innovative model designed to strengthen financial resilience, support long-term sustainability and create new opportunities for collaboration across teaching, research and innovation.
The new arrangement will strengthen access to higher education across Kent and South East London, while helping the institutions address shared priorities and challenges through their combined expertise and resources.
Poppy Short, partner at Mills & Reeve, said: "We're delighted to see this work recognised by the FT Innovative Lawyers Europe Awards 2026. It was a privilege to support the University of Kent on a transaction that breaks new ground for the higher education sector and demonstrates how institutions can work together to strengthen resilience, expand opportunities and increase their impact."
