David is a highly experienced employment law expert who helps employers in a number of sectors navigate their way through complex and often sensitive HR issues. He is also part of Mills & Reeve's nationally-renowned education practice and for more than two decades has advised universities in particular on some of the most important employment disputes in the sector.
Supporting your ambitions
One of David's work highlights was a major restructuring project for a university client. He was involved in the planning stages to help ensure informed strategic decision-making. Then as the project unfolded, he drafted communications with unions and affected staff, helped train line managers on their part in the consultation process, and attended meetings of the panels responsible for making key decisions. The project is memorable because all of that practical involvement ran alongside having to grapple with some difficult legal issues, but particularly because the client delivered the project successfully with no resulting litigation.

What else should you know?
David was appointed as a part-time employment judge in 2013 and has been sitting on a regular basis ever since.
He also undertook a long-term secondment to a university HR department, gaining an invaluable insight into the demands on and priorities of the HR team, senior officers and academic and professional managers.
